Contains a second-hand account of Colonel Carl von Donop's unsuccessful attempt to storm Red Bank (N.J.) in order to capture Fort Mercer on 21-22 Oct. 1777; and a first-hand account of a military operation at Gray's Ferry (Pa.), in which Reed took part. Anthon's note concerns the content of the letter and corroborating accounts in other sources.
